DOREL JUVENILE GROUP, INC. To Conduct A Safety Recall For Alpha Omega And Eddie Bauer

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc. (DJG), will conduct a recall campaign applicable to approximately 86,000 Alpha Omega and Eddie Bauer "3-in-1" brand child restraints manufactured from November 17, 2000, to January 10, 2001, Models 02-331, 02-332, 02-531, 02-533, 02-537, and 02-555. Crash tests conducted by NHTSA demonstrated that the tether webbing could be cut and separate in a crash, which constitutes a failure to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems." In the event of a crash, the child may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of injury. DJG will mail a free repair kit along with easy-to-follow installation instructions to owners who have returned their registration cards. Owners who have not registered their product should contact DJG"s toll-free number (866-611-3022) Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST or fax to 800-207-8182. They may also e-mail DJG at alpharecall@djgusa.com. NHTSA encourages parents to obtain and install the repair kit as soon as possible, for the models listed above. If they have no substitute child restraint, parents should continue to use the seat while waiting to receive and install the repair kit because this unrepaired DJG seat will still provide better protection than an adult seat belt or no restraint.
